One Day Down, 364 to go...

As expected, day one of this project was a crazy-ass day.  Between dropping both kids off at school, picking them up, getting to and from grad school by way of a friend's borrowed vehicle (Thanks, Susan!) because mine decided not to run correctly and all of the other daily activities, I couldn't even make recipes 2 and 3 until 10:00 pm tonight.  But, I did it!  I almost cried a few times during the day, but I got it done.  Yeah!

Funny story.  I went to Shaw's today to get a few ingredients that I needed.  For the French toast, Martha suggested white bread so I picked a homemade loaf of white bread that wasn't sliced.  I asked the woman at the bakery if she could slice it for me, and I also asked if it could be cut 3/4" thick.  She put her hand on her hip, rolled her eyes and said, "It comes in one size."  I said, "That's fine then," but inside I was thinking, "Crap!  Martha wouldn't like this; she said 3/4"!"  If someone uttered those words to Martha, she would have jumped over the counter, ripped the bread out of the bakery lady's hands, calibrated the slicer to the desired thickness and gotten it done.  Instead I watched the bakery lady slice my bread in that "one size" and squish the loaf back into the bag before she handed it to me.  I now know a little what it's like to be Martha - a particular woman in a non-particular world.  Tough times.

So, today I made French toast, tortilla casserole and pico de gallo.  Here are a few pictures of the recipes:

French toast (didn't look good but tasted great)

What delicious recipes will I make tomorrow?  I certainly have quite a few to choose from...
