Culinary Confessions

Today was the hardest day of Project Melissa & Martha so far.  It's Day 9, and I just felt tired, overwhelmed and unmotivated.  It kind of hit me that what I'm doing with this project, while it's cool, is tons o'work.  Plus this contaminated water thing is getting pretty darn old.  It makes me realize how much we take clean, running water for granted and how much easier our lives are with clean, running water.

I was supposed to make 4 recipes today, but I only made 2.  While I'm confessing culinary sins, I have to let you know that I was forced to use imitation vanilla flavoring in my cookies tonight when I ran out of pure vanilla extract.  I think Martha would forever shun me if she knew this dirty little secret.  SHHHHHH!!!!  I feel like I just went to confession...

Tonight I made French butter cookies and TRIED to make classic light rolls.  The cookies came out fabulously, if I do say so myself.  The classic light rolls never had a chance.  I had to let the dough rise for 2 1/2 hours, but it never did.  Still waiting for it to rise 4 1/2 hours later.

Here's to hoping that Day 10 goes a little better than Day 9.  I know this project isn't going to be anything near easy, especially with a family, grad school and all the other things that make life so busy, but I will get it done.  I definitely have to buy some more pure vanilla extract, though.
